Who we are

Hailing from Whakatane, I was absolutely spoilt to have such an incredible playground for both me and the horses that came into my life. I was privileged enough to have my first pony provided by my parents, but equally humbled enough at the fact that she was green broke, had a few tricks up her sleeve, and the reality of the logistical nightmare that was getting your saddle to your horse on a bike quickly set in. Luckily, kids bounce and gravel doesn’t hurt too much through leather boots! Regardless of the few scrapes, dings and questionable ways to fall off- I felt like the luckiest kid in the world, and that feeling never left.

My devotion and huge learnings throughout my career have led me to the success I have in working with horses and their people. Meraki means to put a piece of yourself into what you do, and I am proud that each horse I work with leaves with a little piece of myself and my work when they depart.

In an often critical and opinionated industry, I aim to foster a sense of belonging for all riders and horses, at all levels. Working with all partnerships, whether competitive or pleasure riders- if you have your horses best interests in mind, you’re in the right place.

In the equine business, it is as important to understand people as it is their equine partners. In order to achieve success, we ensure that all parties have a full understanding of the big picture.

I know that people are a big part of the picture! Personally, in a partnership I believe horses are the easy part. My passion for understanding people followed me throughout my adult years pursuing and completing a degree in sociology- trust me, horses are far less complicated.

My patience and understanding of equines and ability to relate and build relationships with people have allowed me to pursue the business where we develop a relationship with both horses and their owners to create a shared understanding of what our goals are and how to get there together.

I can’t wait to go on the journey with you!

Our Process

Tailored Plan

One size does not fit all. Prior to commencing any work we aim to carry out a comprehensive conversation with horse owners to discuss the partnership, goals, history, and (if applicable), known issues that you may have encountered. This allows for us to develop a realistic and achievable plan for both Meraki Equine and the partnership alike to have positive long term results.

Education

With goals set, we begin the education phase. Whether starting, schooling, teaching, or selling, the education phase revolves around the end goal. Throughout the education phase, your horse will be further developed on site, taking advantage of the vast rolling hills we have available to us, as well as the all weather arena, round pen where required, and the natural desensitisation of operating farming machinery. Off-site exposure such as the beach, nearby facilities or events can be discussed.

Ongoing support

We welcome all clients to stay connected. We are happy to provide lessons and further training for partnerships, and always have time to chat should you have any queries following your horses time with us. We know off-site experiences can be daunting on your own, and we are happy to pop out with a confident horse to aid in building confidence for you and your horse in new environments.
